Coffer

2017

With a nod to museum collections, the drawers in Coffer invite viewers to experience a different type of specimen. Each drawer offers an individual arrangement of artifacts that blends human figures with insects and birds, historical illustrations with modern photographs, and paper cutouts with entomological pins and thread.

Coffer is an interactive piece. You are encouraged to view it both from afar and up close, where you can open each drawer to reveal its interior.

Coffer can be displayed as a unit or spread along the walls. When hung together, the total piece is around 5 feet (h) x 3.5 feet (w) x 16 inches (d). All of the drawers are kept to about 5.5 feet from the ground so the contents can be seen when opened by viewers. The drawers require a plywood-backed wall or the equivalent. When not possible, they can be displayed on tables and pedestals. (see Douglas County Historical Museum)
